- Handprint Exceptionally comprehensive information on watercolour paints and equipment. Exhaustive details on pigments, translucency, comparing brands etc. Essential viewing for the true obsessive.
- James Gurney A mine of information on ‘plein air’ painting and sketching from the author of ‘Dinotopia’. Daily posts, always interesting.

Baywatch, day and night
Two more Summer seaside views, when I was moving from pen to ink-brush for the key elements of a sketch. The first is from a ledge at the top of the North Cliffs, looking across the bay to Tenby old-town, with tree-tops below … Continue reading

Twilight
A couple of sketches looking South from Bath towards Stantonbury Hill at dusk, trying to catch the receding planes of trees in the autumnal half-light. And then five earlier attempts at the same view from the last few years, trying out water-colour, coloured … Continue reading
Mendip views
A break from urban sketching with some rural pictures! They were all done in the Mendips, which rise above the Somerset Levels and have surprisingly good views for their size. An ink-filled water-brush was perfect for drawing the pattern of trees and hedges in the fields … Continue reading

Can’t see the wood
A break from Cordoba with some recent tree sketches, rural and urban. The first two are of an old mossy oak in a wood of mostly Scots Pine, done a couple of months apart. Then a tree in Queen’s Square in … Continue reading
Take off, in-flight, landing
Scenes from a flight to Stockholm… A sketchy impression of the rolling patchwork landscape around Bristol airport as the plane took off, random images from a flight safety card (including a wildly optimistic ‘landing on water’), and planes waiting at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport under low … Continue reading

Stantonbury
Lexington grey broad fountain pen and water-brush, water-colour, A6 – 20 minutes A quick sketch of a familiar view, looking South West towards Stantonbury Hill about 4 miles away. It was a balmy early summer evening, the trees all in leaf, … Continue reading
