The latest batch of quick late evening mirror selfies from my daily drawing habit. All done using the blackest and least smudgy pencil that I’ve found, the Staedtler Mars Lumograph Black. It’s high carbon and low (no?) graphite so the drawings don’t have a grey graphite sheen to them, but you can smudge the lines when you want some tone. Much more of this type of thing in this friendly Facebook group.
There are 200 more of my analogue selfies in this post…
Ahh, good to see your selfies again! I love the matte blackness of the Lumo Blacks, but I get a bit annoyed by how draggy they feel compared to soft graphite. I recently got a Staedtler Lumograph 12B (graphite, not carbon), the softest grade of graphite I have ever seen. It still has the sheen of graphite, which you might not like, but the softest graphite ever! Like skating on hot butter! Smudges nicely with a tortillon or (probably) fingertip. Try one!
Thanks Tina, I’ve got used to the carbon drag, worth it for the blackness! But will give the shiney buttery 12B a go and report back…
