A great afternoon in Bath with Susan from Salt Spring Island, BC Canada, sharing approaches and observations on urban figure sketching. Her island’s 7,500km/4,700miles from Bath, but coincidentally she lives 5 minutes away from my mother’s second cousin (whose daughter coincidentally married someone who went to my brother-in-law’s school…). A small world, made smaller, and also bigger, through sketching.

Hi Ed,
It was great to sketch with you on Sat. I am inspired by your sketchbook and the materials you have adapted. The diluted inks are great. I love your sketches and I will look forward to continuing to follow your blog. I hope we get a chance to sketch together again. Maybe on Saltspring? All the best and many thanks, Susan

Many thanks Susie, it was lovely chatting as we sketched. And interesting that you were sketching people around town before ‘urban sketching’ was a ‘thing’! We’re planning a Canadian trip sometime in the next couple of years, and Salt Spring will be part of our plans. See you there, if not before! Ed
