Apologies for the recent blog neglect; I’ve had some major elective surgery to prevent recurrence of the diverticulitis that laid me low in July (these are my hospital sketches from that visit) and am now recuperating well. So here’s a view of the hospital carpark, done during one of my more lucid moments when the medication/rest balance was just right! I’d opened the window a little, and the fresh air and sounds from the outside world were bliss, almost as good as the cup of tea… I’ve managed to keep up my daily drawing throughout, so now have lots of biro drawings of bedside ephemera, and strange attempts to capture the faces I could see in some of the winter branches outside…

I love the way this sketch reflects you eagerness to get out into daily routine again and lthe comforting cup of tea reflected in the window of the outside world – almost craves freedom into the outside world itself!

Glad to hear you’re doing well now! I’ve occasionally wondered what I would do if I were laid up for a while and so drugged up or sick that I couldn’t keep up with daily drawing — but you have given me faith that where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Thanks Tina, the frustration was that there were some interesting things to sketch (other patients, medical equipment etc), just no will or energy!
You take care. Really glad you took a couple of relaxing tools with you (pens etc). I have used a cotton bud or tissue paper on a cocktail stick or my wife’s eye liner brush and the left over coffe in the cup before now but IKEA pencils are not good !! Hopefully see you soon in Pembrokeshire again. Graham
