My eyes! My eyes!

A GIF-tastic round-up of some recent sketches, mostly of Bath, showing how water-colour works with drawings done in bamboo dip-pen and coloured ink. I love the way that the coloured ink lines can fade back into the sketch or be brought forward, depending on the colour and density of wash/glaze that’s then applied. Apologies for any headaches caused by ten simultaneous GIFs, and Happy Christmas!

Wow! Very cool. It’s like they’re breathing.
Fascinating how adding the watercolour moves it towards realism—it feels as if they would turn in to photographs if they continued changing. Wonderful detail and great perspective.
Think my favourites are the moored boat at the top which really comes to life with that shading on the hull, and the Bath Spa vapours. Very nice.
    Happy Christmas!

Thanks Jim, you introduced me to the wonders of GIFfing sketches! Used a website to do these, much simpler as only two images for each. Love the idea that they could progress beyond sketchiness towards the photographic. See you in 2017

  2. Very cool! What did you use to make the gifs?
