Paint-balling

sherry_0002 sherry_0004My boots drying out after a muddy day paint-balling with Si, Benjy, Leo and others. Below the boots is a tiny sketch of a Dad and his son. It was the only one I managed on the day, during a brief rest between being shot and the next game. My legs were still aching 3 days later…

Night lights

sherry_0002

A pair of night lights on the base of a grill pan, in a tent on a cold and windy night, while camping at the end of last Summer. Had to use a head-torch to do this one.

Blossom

A sprig of blackthorn blossom sketched last year. Blackthorn has vicious thorns, but produces sloes for ginning. Spring is just around the corner…

Dead toad

sherry_0008_3sherry_0010sherry_0003sherry_0004I found this toad belly up in the garden last Summer, and returned to sketch it several times it over a few weeks. The colours changed, the body grew, then shrank, and the arms moved. Looks like he/she’s playing air guitar…

Two storey pool

horse_0001

A beautiful fountain/pool I saw in Istanbul last Summer. It was in an old bath-house, now a market, and connected the ground floor and basement. When the stall-holders saw me sketching they kindly put the water-pump on full, then they were called to prayer and the market closed, ready for the end of the day’s fasting (it was Ramadan/Ramazan).

Jim and Anna, again

sherry

Jim feeding Anna, and me up a ladder again. (See previous post Lunch). The focussed stillness when feeding a baby helps to make a great sketch subject

Four candles

sherry_0004

The ubiquitous café sketch. Black tea and lemon drizzle cake in Bath Guildhall market. I used a white marker pen to correct the fork handle and to lighten the lip of the mug, which could be considered cheating, and a bit clumsy…
